Boy's Best Friend: Lost 3-year-old is Sheltered from Rain by Family Dog Who Kept Him Safe
Three-year-old
Carson Urness, had been playing outside on the family farm, one day
recently, but didn't come in the house when his mother called him.
Mom, Courtney searched the entire farmyard, but little Carson was nowhere to be found.
Then she noticed that the family dog, a retriever mix named Cooper, was also gone.
Speaking with a reporter from CNN, Courtney recalls how upset she was as she called 911.
"I lost it, I guess you could say. It was hard," she said.
It wasn't long before over 200 volunteers were looking for Carson, including a search plane and search dog.
"You kind of start thinking the worst, but then again, I knew that Cooper was gone…if anybody was going to find [Carson], they would just have to find Cooper," said Courtney.
It wasn't until 2am the next morning when word came that little Carson had been found a mile away, and indeed, he had his best friend with him.
In fact, Carson told his parents later that the family dog Cooper had not only stayed with him, but laid on top of him to keep him warm and protect him from any rain.
Another reason to never underestimate the friendship between dogs and their humans.
